The U.S. doesn't waste anything on that.  You're coming from the point of view that everything is owned by the U.S. government. Newsflash - that's not the case.

Elon's money is Elon's money.  Same with everyone else.  Newsflash - we have private property rights in the U.S.   That means you don't just take other people's property when you want stuff*.   Got it?
