This was us last year (well, he was waitlisted since they didn't use deferrals last year). My DS was from a high-performing FCPS high school where he was competing against other very strong students. He had a 1500 SAT, 4.44 GPA, outstanding ECs, and 9 APs -- well, many others had a 1540 SAT, 4.47 GPA, outstanding ECs, and 12 APs. They cannot accept everyone.[/quote]

Our DC got admitted with a slightly higher SAT and slightly lower WGPA. No hooks. I think only 5 APs, but he had some IBs and Dual enrollment.  But lots of extra curriculars and volunteer hours, and worked a few jobs.  I wonder if it was the letters of recommendation, essays, or th[b]ey saw we only applied to Virginia schools, [/b]and knew it wasn't just a backup for us.  Grandparents had paid for the Virginia Prepaid529 18 years ago - so we are very happy.[/quote]
