I think make up days is a stupid idea. So there are 1-2 days less of school this year. Whatever. Time to move on
If MCPS were left to it's own devices they'd probably stop school in April. There is a law about this for a reason. MCPS could have scheduled more days in it's regular calendar, but they didn't. I have no sympathy for all they whining they are going to hear.
There should be a law, however it should be more flexible. Some states have an hours requirement equivalent to 180 days but the schools have a little less than 180 calendar dates. That said MC should be doing everything to avoid going into the week of June 16 unless it becomes impossible. January 29, March 31, June 6 are listed as makeup days. They should be going in order so only if there are 6 or more closures would they have to end on June 16 or later. Someone said if the last day would be a Monday due to a makeup day it could be waived so there might have to be 7 or more closures to require school to end June 17 or later. However if January 29 passes without being used that becomes 6 and if they won't use March 31 or June 6 then just ONE more closure will be the last day at June 17 when they had the ability to AVOID it.
