Reach: Caltech(deferred REA, then denied), Harvey Mudd(accepted with merit - attending), CMU(WL, which my DS declined), MIT(denied) Public reach: Berkeley(WL, which my DS declined), Michigan Engg.(accepted with merit), Georgia Tech(accepted with STAMPS semifinalist) Target: UIUC(accepted), UMD CP - Clark Engg.(accepted), Purdue(accepted) Safety: U-Minnesota(in-state)

I’d love to know more about your kid. Mine has similar interests. Can you share how much merit he was offered at each of the schools? What do you think about his app got such great results? And finally, how does he like Harvey Mudd?
Sorry for replying as Anonymous. I meant it to be Anonymous earlier, but I forgot to log out. We applied everywhere, seeking financial aid. However, Michigan's Engineering Scholarship was a very big surprise since we are OOS. For Harvey Mudd, he received the Harvey S Mudd merit award. As we all know, the application process is really arbitrary. My DS is an Asian male with high stats, NMSF, awards, leadership positions, etc., which we hear of so many applicants from this demographic. So, he knew his overall application needed to be strong and really worked on the essays. Putting forward a very strong application was in our hands, and so we did that. He received mixed results, and he is blessed that he landed in one of his top choices.
Thanks for the info! Glad to hear your kid likes Harvey Mudd. We haven’t visited yet, so if we get good news we’ll have to make a trip. Cal Tech was too small for my kid. I’m curious how much Michigan Eng offers for a merit scholarship as it doesn’t seem published anywhere.
