[/quote] yes it is "human to want something" but by age 17 your kid should be able to understand how "unlikely it is to gain admission " to some of these reach schools. So don't let them be so obsessed with something that is unlikely. They've done the "hard work" and bought the lottery ticket, but now it's out of your control, and acceptance or rejection does NOT define you---nobody can take away the hard work and learning that happened in HS to get there.
