A kid of one of the other PTA parents showed up wearing an oversized Yale sweatshirt and I had a *visceral* negative reaction. Like I was suprised by how obnoxious it felt to me. Contributing factors:

- School has a very high at risk population with a lot of families whose parents did not go to college at all and some without high school degrees

- Kid who was wearing the sweatshirt is in a bit of a braggy/arrogant phase in general so this felt compounding

- Because the sweatshirt was oversized, the "Yale" was just freaking huge -- the letters were like 20 inches high and being worn by a small-for-their-age 2nd grader

I don't actually even know if either of the parents went to Yale! But that was a hard no for me and I filed away my reaction for the future so I don't make this mistake because I couldn't believe how gross this wound up coming off to me. Hard no.[/quote]
