I hate those stupid trucks. I would be fine with a few good ones (with no music!) but it's out of control. I saw that the Park Police recently cracked down and towed a bunch but they need to do it more often.
The need to setup a regulatory structure for the trucks - code of conduct, permitting, food safety, truck safety regs (fyi - food trucks catch on fire A LOT), etc. The problem is that NPS actually has food service installations on the mall (run by a contractor) and they give concessioner a monopoly on food sales. So the Feds can't actually set up a regulatory system for the food trucks. It's maddening.
ummmmm -- all those trucks are regulated by DC. Also you cannot limit VA and MD trucks from getting permits.
soooo they are supposed to be regulated by DC, but most are not these days. They have not been inspected by DC Health, DC Fire, or DLCP. There is no enforcement. Contact Director Tiffany Crowe at DLCP and tell her you are sick of the food trucks blocking commuter traffic, pedestrian crossings, and dumping their grease and oil into the city sewers. Where do the drivers go to the bathroom? In the truck. DCRA busted a driver a few years back who was using Dupont Circle water for cooking hot dogs. The horror stories are myriad.
