Home school is so poorly regulated in a lot of places that parents can teach kids nothing or even transparently false superstitious nonsense and not be breaking any laws or suffer any consequences. Bill Gothard's "Advance Training Institute" curriculum ("wisdom booklets") used by a lot of homeschoolers for decades, for example, is a joke.
