I had no idea that kids were still playing D&D. And I have two college age kids.
It got a boost in popularity after Stranger Things. They have school-sponsored D and D clubs at a ton of schools now, and obviously lots of people get together and play it on their own.
I had not heard that D&D was a thing again. My kids haven’t been playing it. They like some video games but are mostly into sports
College age D&D player here! I think D&D is still kind of niche among younger people, albeit a much bigger niche than it was back in the 70s and 80s. Video games and sports are way more popular, which I don't really see much of an issue with. All of those hobbies can encourage problem solving and making connections with peers, just in different ways (studies have been done on the developmental benefits of D&D, and I think it's pretty easy to see how many folks are friends because of sports and video games). Like other folks here have said, D&D is a great hobby in moderation! As long as your kids don't eat, sleep, and breathe their D&D campaigns, they should turn out fine.
