MoCo 360 report: https://moco360.media/2024/05/13/b-cc-student-allegedly-brought-gun-to-school-later-fled-building/ No new info but it confirms what was in the principal's letter.
THE PRINCIPAL DID NOT SAY WHAT THE WEAPON WAS. I am outraged that he did not mention it was a gun, and that he's leaving us hanging like this. The BCC listserve is going crazy.
As it should.
Dr. Mooney should be replaced by a more experienced Principal who knows their job better. Time for him to go. He's had too many communication issues. There have been too many slip-ups, most of them related to safety, including the fight at the Bethesda metro at the beginning of the year, and the ARMED carjacking perpetrated in part by BCC student(s).
Not trying to defend anyone here certainly not at the moment, but know they are controlled heavily by CO what they write, when they write it vetted by CO. And per letter, by MCPD too. But a more experienced administrator yes could have handled differently though not sure what that difference would have been not knowing other details. They could address why school did not go into lockdown, shelter in place. Article said alleged person is known and was seen fleeing building. So they caught the student therefore, no lock down? What was it? Those details can be shared without compromising identify. Parents should be livid. Beyond time to join forces, families.
BCC parent here. I thought Dr. Mooney’s letter was appropriate and that they handled things responsibly. There is no reason to go into lockdown if they know the threat is no longer in the building. My child saw a lot of police offficers this morning, but I’m grateful he didn’t go through the trauma of a lockdown.
Did the school know for sure, did your administrator followup with details? If your kid was at school whenever that carjacking took place, heard from neighbors that school sheltered in place, not exactly same as lockdown but your kid did go "through the trauma" nonetheless.
