I know both are always reaches, but DS has the stats to make both realistic if he applies correctly. He has a 1570 SAT/ 35 ACT and a 4.0 UW with the highest rigor at his selective private school. He is a four year varsity athlete and team captain with state ranking in one sport, a four year varsity player in another, president of business club, co-head of math club with 1st place state medal in his event (probability), Top 10% of his class, and has volunteering hours and a paid summer job. DS would major in Econ and minor in Business at Northwestern (and would apply for the MMSS program) and would apply ED if he decides it's his first choice. At Georgetown he would apply to McDonough School of Business. He could apply REA or not (we understand it doesn't really confer a large advantage). For NU he has to decide if it's his first choice because their ED rate is around 20% but their RD rate is more like 7%, so deciding not to ED is statistically throwing away his chance at admission. He has to decide this summer and ED (or not) accordingly. He has visited both and really liked both. He loved Georgetown/DC as a town, and he likes Evanston and the proximity to Chicago. Weather doesn't affect his decision - we are from the Midwest and it doesn't bother him. He thinks he wants to work in NYC in finance, but that could change so I want him to get a degree that opens lots of options. He wants sports teams he can root for and he also wanted Greek life. Does Georgetown have some sort of "unofficial" Greek life? Is NU's Greek life still active? Would love thoughts from people who have recent experience with either college or whose DCs also were choosing between them. I wish he could apply to both and then decide, but it seems that if he wants NU it has to be by ED so he has to decide sooner.
Highly suggest you look at Northeastern, it's one of the most selective Universities in the world and is far superior to both. I would also add it's actually in the Northeast verse Northwestern which is directionally confused because it's actually in the Midwest. I'd go to the school that can teach accurate geography.
