SAfeties for one kid are reaches for others. For example, my kid liked both Pitt and Delaware. Both schools are very popular in her circles as safeties. My kid did not get in either - it becomes a numbers game, so many kids from high school and nearby high schools applied my B student kid was squeezed out. So safeties for my kid became West Virginia, Towson, Westchester, Duquesne. All admits with merit aid offered.
This is exactly right. A safety for Sidwell Friends' valedictorian whose parent is a senator is literally anywhere, for another kid a safety is the local community college. It's just very much relative and a million factors go into it, and it's not offensive to say so. Congrats to your kid for picking a great list of reasonable safeties and breathing easy!
