Silver Creek is more diverse than Westland and it also feeds into BCC. Only Pyle feeds into Whitman. For what it’s worth, I think the diversity is a major plus.
By "diverse" do you mean poor or black?
Racist, much?
So which is it, poor or black?
OP here - in my case, more diversity means lots of things, one being economic diversity. I am a single mom, and cannot afford a house, so we always live in condo buildings. I am far from poor, but I do not live in a $ 2 million house either. That is the other reason I am considering Westland/BCC.
Being a single mom means nothing as you can be having a very high income. The schools will be pretty similar so pick the house you like. You can afford a house, just maybe not in the area you want. Condos aren't always great with condo fees.
OP here - I cannot afford a house, thus the condo.
Condo's in that area cost more than houses in other areas. You Can afford something nice but you want to live in that area. Then, you'll come back complaining about other things because you choose that area. Good luck.
OP here - aren't you just the sweetest ..... :-) You can purchase condos for $ 300-450K in the Westland/Pyle neighborhood. Where can you buy a house for that much? Please do tell me. Due to work and other issues, I am not able to move to Germantown or places far out like that....but thanks.
Silver Spring, Kensington, Wheaton.. You forget condos have large condo fees.
Perhaps OP doesn't want her kids shot or stabbed at school and that's why she's looking where she's looking.
OP - yeah, I definitely do not want that, plus am looking for strong academics and ambitious, smart kids/families plus location not far from downtown DC. I am an educated, well-traveled professional, except am a single mom and not rich in Bethesda terms.
And, many of us are in the same situation and live down county. It's a bonus for your commute. What makes you think smart ambitious kids aren't down county or other schools beyond those you talk about. The only difference is we live far more comfortably, own a house and much more on the same income.
OP - sorry, where is "down county"? I am not familiar with that area or neighborhood, so please do explain. One thing is for sure: I do not want my commute to be more than 30 minutes.
Kensington, parts of Silver Spring/Wheaton. Right off Georgia and Conn. Ave which puts you downtown easily. If you go down county, for HS you have the consortium so your kids have school choice so if a school has a specialized program your kids like, they can try to lottery into it. Don't rule out the DCUM "bad" neighborhoods. You could buy a house, so eventually you'd own it and be with lots of families similar to your family/income with money left over for college and other things.
