[/quote] Federal direct undergrad loans have a 5.5% interest rate for this school year and were just under 5% for last year. It isn't a terrible idea to have your kids take loans at this rate (especially if you can help with repayment). You would have almost certainly done a lot better over the last year taking loans and leaving the $$ invested in an index fund. Some debt isn't awful, especially when your money is doing well elsewhere. [/quote]
