He’s probably working there to try to sell personal training sessions and knows that women tend to be less sure of themselves in the weight room so targeted you and your daughter to receive his “help.” Believe me, I know how it feels. I’m a 54 year old woman and when I went to REI recently for new hiking shoes the young male salesman first tried to steer me to “shoes that would be better for gravel trails.” I came close to taking him down explaining the type of hiking that I actually do and he backed down pretty quickly, but it’s annoying to constantly feel like you have to prove yourself, and the guys still don’t get it.
Women can be just as bad. I had joined a gym and had a personal trainer who is a body builder. I'm overweight but strong. I did a lot of lifting with that trainer and have good form. I am all about form. I went in for a pilates session with a young woman and when she saw me lifting a few days later she was hysterical and actually grabbed me trying to stop me. She was certain I had no idea what I was doing and would hurt myself. She would not leave me alone and came back with her concern multiple times. I told my trainer about it and he spoke to her so she wouldn't do that again.
