Remember the summer days when it was SO hot and hazy that they declared the air quality to be code red. Isn't that the same as the code red for the AQI now?? We didn't wear masks before. Is it the same code red now??
If we have a code red day due to ozone, masks will not help. An N95 will not filter ozone.
I honestly think ozone is less harmful than 2.5pp -- these smoke bits lodge in your lungs forever and can trigger cancers. Ozone is broken down in the body after 10 minutes -- it can cause acute respiratory symptoms though.
You should ask for a position with the EPA and correct their guidance.
. I don’t think what pp said is wrong or inconsistent with EPA’s guidance— code red is when ordinary people should consider reducing outdoor time to avoid adverse effects. But the adverse effects from PM may be worse for ordinary people than from ozone. This is particularly true for say 2 hrs outside without exercising.
The original question was why aren't we always told to wear a mask during code red days. Not is ozone or PM2.5 worse.
