Shooter identified as Mauricio Martinez Garcia
[twitter]https://twitter.com/wsj/status/1655263758170697729?s=61&t=I7ZozTDGmPOsC7cmSRxwgA[/twitter] [twitter]https://twitter.com/robertmaguire_/status/1655296759571128322?s=61&t=I7ZozTDGmPOsC7cmSRxwgA[/twitter] “The gunman who opened fire on an outlet mall in a Dallas suburb Saturday, killing at least eight people, was a man in his early 30s who may have had white supremacist or neo-Nazi beliefs, people familiar with the investigation said Sunday. They said a patch the gunman was wearing on his chest at the time of the shooting suggested the potential white supremacist leanings. Authorities have not released a motive.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/05/07/texas-allen-outlets-shooting-dallas/?itid=hp-top-table-main_p001_f001
A Hispanic white supremacist? Sounds incredulous.
You haven’t been paying attention. Nick Fuentes and Enrique Tarrio ring any bells? Experts tell Axios far-right extremism within the Latino community stems from three sources: Hispanic Americans who identify as white; the spread of online misinformation; and lingering anti-Black, antisemitic views among U.S. Latinos that are rarely openly discussed. https://www.axios.com/2022/03/10/rise-white-nationalist-hispanics-latinos “It should come as no surprise that there are several Latino male white nationalists who have gotten disproportionate attention in recent years, but in a country that keeps misunderstanding why the U.S. Latino community is nowhere near close to being a monolith, it is critical to examine how this notion of Latino white nationalists still feels strange to some.” https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/amp/ncna1291949
True. The Latino community skews religious and conservative, particularly when it comes to newcomers, 1st generation Americans, and especially those living in a conservative area like TX. Plus: this area in particular, Allen, is a fast-growing, affluent area that has experienced an influx of transplants from CA, the West Coast, Chicago, the East Coast, etc., including a growing population of Asians and Indians. Area businesses owned by Asians are growing. No clue what the murderer’s motivation was. But it will be interesting to see if his motive stemmed from anti-Asian or anti-Black or anti-Jewish hate. The area just recently suffered a Latino on Latino neighborhood massacre.
