Maybe the city should stop trying to cram in as many subsidised apartment buildings as it can on any open lot.
Except for car dealerships that occupy arguably the second most prime piece of real estate in the hottest area of the entire city. Yeah, lets keep 3 blocks of MTV as one giant parking lot. Absurd.
Del Ray gets whatever it wants. Meanwhile on the west side...
Del Ray wanted retail, restaurants, and housing but got a used car dealership instead.
Except Del Ray also did not want a multi-story mixed use building in that location so a lot of them may think the status quo is better.
False.
I am not sure about that. A lot of people Del Ray support larger height buildings (ie the affordable housing waiver) …. except in Del Ray
No one want expanded height limits except developers and city council members who want to cram subsidised hosting everywhere including on school grounds!
+1 People bought in Del Ray because they wanted cute bungalows with Metro access and walkability to shops, grocers and restaurants. If they wanted concrete canyons they could have bought in Arlington. Wilson will destroy Del Ray.
Well it claustrophobic-those streets and lots. They would have been better buying in Lyon Village or Lyon Park for bungalows with that access and walkability and Metro, and much better commute to DC...as well as better public schools.
Comparing Lyon Village's amenities and retail offerings to Del Ray's?
Yeah. Del Ray is one tiny strip. There are so many new restaurants and options in Clarendon. We even got your Restaurant Eve recently--Bar Ivy. I was told the people in Oldtown/Del Ray are too old now and don't go out to eat so a lot of restauranteurs are now opening in Clarendon. The '7 Reasons' people are also opening one soon near Clarendon Metro. It's going higher end. The chain from Soho/Montauk/Upper East Side just opened her as well. The 2941, BLT steak also recently opened and it's really good. What retail are you talking about in Del Ray--the dog store? We have one of those and some consignment shops too. But, back to schools. Yeah--would have been better to go to APS for their public schools all the way K-12 and the much, much closer proximity to DC.
