It’s brilliant. It is the point at which most people agree. Prolife won’t agree to anything but I am a Republican woman from a long line of republican women (from the north, all college educated) and I want abortion legal but not unfettered. This will force democrats to own that some of them want unlimited abortion. By 15 weeks you know — that is 3 plus months in— so this means that after 15 weeks it’s off limits. But after that, the baby should have the chance. But this is about flushing out the liars and extremists in the pro abortion lobby. 12 is too soon, 20 is too late. 15 is the sweet spot and it’s going to have an impact.
It's brilliant because it lets ignorant people think they're being reasonable while still unreasonably restricting health care for women. 15 weeks is completely arbitrary, except that the people who picked it know it puts the deadline before the full body scan at 20 weeks, which will prevent women from choosing abortions when they get bad news about the health of the fetus at that checkup. It's quite heartless for republicans to choose a random cut off date that has no basis in science, medicine or religion, only in control and cruelty. I really don't understand why someone would say it's acceptable to allow abortions of nonviable fetuses up to 15 weeks, but it's absolutely unacceptable and should be illegal to abort an unviable fetus with medical problems 5 weeks later. No good will come of laws like this.
Even worse, it allows terminations of viable, healthy fetuses being carried by healthy women at 15 weeks but not by unviable fetuses at 20 weeks. I thought Republicans were against abortions for convenience?
No, obviously not. They just want not so smart people who don't realize this to vote for them.
