OP, I completely respect your choice to move into the Whitman/BCC cluster if that is what works best for you. I just want you to be aware that it sounds like you have some misconceptions about the types of people that live outside of Bethesda. In my Einstein-feeder neighborhood there are there are a lot of very educated people (Ph.D.s, people with international careers) as well as people from other walks of life which is something that we value. My husband and I each have multiple advanced degrees and we do not feel even remotely out of place. The elementary school has a Spanish immersion program for all students so that attracts families that want that kind of language exposure for their kids. I myself attended Whitman, and when my parents bought their Bethesda house it cost roughly the same, inflation-adjusted, as our DCC house did last year. The families that attend Whitman now are just not the same as they were 25 years ago.
OP here - thanks PP, but as I have mentioned, my choice of either the BCC or Whitman cluster is mainly due to: 1. strength of schools; 2. proximity to DC/ work; and 3. proximity to our previous NW DC neighborhood, therefore we know some people in these neighborhoods/ are familiar with the neighborhoods. Our family has been through quite a lot of changes the past few years, so familiarity gives us comfort.
Again, that's FINE, I'm just responding to the following comment that you made: "I am an educated international professional with smart kids, so obviously I am looking for like-minded kids/ parents, so we can feel like a good fit." From that perspective there are a lot of other schools that are also close to the DC border where you would find "like-minded kids/parents".
I'm the single mom from an earlier post who is demographically identical to OP and made the same point. Honestly, I give up. Let the Whitman vs. BCC parents fight about which is best, and OP can be assured that her kids are among "like minded peers" in some of the wealthiest schools in the state.
