We are booking suits/connected rooms with a door open since kids were toddlers. Those who share a single room, what do you do after kids are in bed at 9:00pm? Sit silently in a dark room? My budget is not even close to $1K/night but if I can't afford two rooms for $X each, I will go to a $X/2 place.
We would only do this if we actually did want to fall asleep that early. Like if there are jet lag reasons, or getting up really early for a flight or something, or because we're really tired from skiing.
Or I take a nice quiet bath and DH listens to a podcast. It's not that hard.
How do you take a quiet bath? My kids must be light sleepers. The running of the bath, draining of the bath, flushing of the toilet all from the bathroom that’s roughly 5 feet from the bed would keep them awake and or wake them right up. I took my daughter to NYC a for a girl’s weekend and even with separate beds, me trying to read on my phone in dark mode was enough to keep her awake. I ended up just laying there for hours trying to fall asleep since I usually don’t go to bed until 11. We also seem to have the worst luck with traveling. The last trip we took pre Covid we arrived at our destination, got the kids to bed, and our 4 year old promptly started vomiting. He was sharing a room with our then 8 year old. He vomited every couple hours for the entire night. No one got any sleep as we had to continuously call housekeeping to come and bring new sheets. We’d get him cleaned up, the sheets changed, he’d fall asleep for maybe 30 minutes to an hour and then he’d vomit again. Two other trips he came down with strep throat on like day 2 of each trip.
