Dem here: Mayor Pete has never come up as a topic of conversation amongst my fellow Dems. The only people obsessing about him is the RWNJ media ecosystem
+1 He’s just not a serious contender. He’s fine where he is, but he does not have the resume for the office he wants.
He didn’t have the resume for the job he has now….so what? You people are idiots if you can’t see that the democratic machine is driving this storyline.
And let's not forget Obama either. Went from being a community organizer/activists to the senate with nothing in between, and then a few years later the WH. Didn't exactly work out very well as he was certainly extremely inexperienced and naïve, and the sheer fawning over him was ridiculous and nothing symbolized it as much as winning the Nobel peace price when he'd done nothing, but as a symbol that was all that mattered. Politics is extremely strange. Becoming the president is all about being the right person at the right moment. Forces coalesce around candidates and reward the once unthinkable or unappealing. Biden was once a failure, doomed to obscurity (remember the early days of the primaries?), then the forces shifted quickly and brought him to the front very quickly solely based on being the most neutral of the candidates and having none of the flaws of the others (too progressive aka Bernie, unproven and gay aka Buttigieg, bossy and unappealing aka Warren and Klochubar). All the justifiable fears over Biden's age and health were outright ignored and swept under the carpet, and now it's backfiring and we're having this heir replacement discussions. But there really was no one else other than Biden at the right place at the right time, his blandness and neutrality was enough to win over the moderate and independents in 2020 in a way that Buttigieg or Sanders wouldn't have been able to. And that backfired spectacularly when Biden suddenly governed from the left instead of the center and that's also why we're in this mess. Right now, the Democratic playing field is as empty as ever with no real strong national figure that can command the central ground and there's all this talk and sniffing around for a heir replacement.
