Perhaps, but there may be others —like me — who are following this thread with great interest.
Not to derail, but I have a PhD, HYP undergrad, and solid work history in my field.  I have a 10 year gap that includes managing care for a parent. I’m now interested in full time work — and part of my problem is that I lack direction and want to do something different that might build on my previous professional skills.  I’ve very much appreciated the helpful suggestions in this thread.

I also don’t think many of the suggestions are realistic, or they are simply obvious.  Apply to thousands of jobs, make your resume fit each one, stop worrying about what you WANT to do and just take a job, and use your network.

It shouldn’t be difficult if your skill set is in demand, but aimless lacking direction is going to get you nowhere considering hiring managers are millennials who’ve lived through recessions and a pandemic.[/quote]
