Ok I'm the OP. I don't think I'm a troll. The reason I ask is this. A mom I have been pretty close with for 5 years described another mom as "super progressive just like us." I am conservative and I have never said or done anything to imply that I am progressive, in fact I make a point to stay neutral and change the subject because I don't discuss these things outside my family. So I was curious if there were ways people broadcast their affiliation. I will admit that I am lax with my kids about Covid but the other markers you have stated do not apply to me. Thanks and sorry if I offended anyone.
Oh well that's because the way you tell a liberal is they assume everyone agrees with them! When I've had to tell liberals I am not a liberal they are actually shell shocked. Oops! Got exposed to someone with different views!
+1. Exactly. I've found that many liberals are so arrogant in their assumptions that their views are the only correct position to hold and that anyone who doesn't agree with those views doesn't hold a DIFFERENT opinion, they have a WRONG opinion. I think the media endorses this BS by making anything other than the progressive agenda the "alternate" one. And for the record, I'm a conservative in terms of fiscal and international policy but lean heavily toward the middle on social issues.
This isn't supported by spending any time listening to conservatives talk. I grew up in a conservative household, which means I grew up with books with titles like Liberalism is a Mental Disorder or Treason: Liberal Treachery. I grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and believe me, both of those people believe that liberal opinions are WRONG. The newer crop of Ben Shapiro types are the same. Some conservatives in more liberal areas keep their mouths shut, that's all. Back in my home in Eastern NC they are as arrogant about the rightness of their opinion as any Takoma Park Co-Op member. The truth is everyone thinks their opinion is right and the other is wrong, which makes sense; if I didn't think the other opinion was wrong, it would be MY opinion too. That's normal.
