I'm more open than many to unusual/nature names, but Tempest just has a lot of negatives going for it -- naming your kid for a violent storm seems off.  There are names of types of wind that are less destructive, if you like that aspect of it.  [/quote]

the only time that I hear it in conversation is when it's used to describe a tantrum or tirade that is out of proportion to the cause. Tempest in a Teapot is used 99.99% more often than just Tempest [/quote]

The adjective tempestuous -- which is pejorative -- is used pretty frequently.  [/quote]
