So, if all of these kids are moving 1.5 -2 years in elementary school- because of these amazing teachers. Why do we even bother with middle school? Shouldn't the kids just move on to high school or graduation? Do you see how the lies of amazing student growth just do not add up?
I saw this posted in an unrelated post too… We are talking about students who are behind. If you are a 4th grade teacher you absolutely get kids on K level in all or some subjects. Moving them 1 year isn’t enough but if we can move them at least 1.5-2 years every year they are behind at least they will have a fighting chance. Just to break it down K-1st grade level in 5th isn’t great neither is 2nd grade level but it’s much better. Now if the 5th grade teacher is able to do 1.5-2 years they’ll be on an almost 4th or 4th grade level in the 5th grade. If we move students who are behind only 1 year every year they will always be behind. The goal for students on grade level is to keep them there or have them be above grade level. The goal for students above grade level is to keep them there or see if they are ready to skip a grade based on how advanced they are academically and socially/emotionally. Hope this helps!
