DH ans I are both vaccinated and taking immunosuppressants. Our kids are under 12 and one is considered high risk. I want to keep masking but DH reminded that all we heard from the CDC was that masks “may” prevent the person wearing them. It seems that either masks don’t do anything for anyone OR they only protect when people are vaccinated OR wearing masks. Because of my concern about unvaxed people not masking in public now, I’m afraid to go anywhere. I’m most certainly afraid to bring my children anywhere. It’s sad because we were looking forward to summer when we could be outside and feel safer.
A few things: -First, I’m sorry you and your DH are immunosuppressed and have a high risk child. That’s got to be scary during these times -Masks do work, and the quality of them matters: get N95s or double mask with a cloth/surgical mask over a KN95 (find one made in the US) for times when you need to go indoors, e.g., the grocery store -Being outdoors is a very, very low risk scenario for COVID transmission, unless you’re in a tightly packed crowd. Assuming not that, wear a cloth mask and you’ll reduce your risk to one that is vanishingly small -Talk to your PCPs and pediatricians if you haven’t already done so Good luck.
