We have kids who don't show up for weeks at a time and still on the team or maybe show up every 2-3 weeks. They may have the rule but they don't enforce it depending on the coach/team.
Are you kidding? There's covid. Kids aren't showing up for a lot of reasons. If they enforce the rule it would encourage people not to quarantine due to possible exposure or if they are feeling a little bit sick to not skip practice. Kids should be encouraged to quarantine if there's any risk and that means no penalty if you don't show up all season. Maybe dad's a health care worker and gets exposed regularly but they didn't expect that because he's usually in the cancer ward but they called everyone into the covid ward.
These kids were not regularly showing up before covid so that's not a good excuse. You can blame covid but they haven been showing up regularly the past few years so what's the excuse then?
How do you know who comes to practice? Particularly now, when parents aren’t in the building?
A parent always stayed, child talks about it and we have to pick up at the door now which is better for safety so you see who is there. They are combining groups right now as a good number don’t show up.
Honestly, you seemed really obsessed about this and bitter. How old is your kid and do they even like swimming? You come across as pushy and competitive, and maybe upset your child is not as talented as some others? Try to relax about this. If your kid enjoys it and keeps at it, he/she will continue to improve and get stronger, and swimming is a great lifelong sport.
I am not pushy or competitive and we rarely do meets. I could not tell you my child’s time and my only hope is they are not last. My child swims because they want to. I’d pick other activities. I have tried to push other sports. I encourage it in college beyond recreation. But, we have friends whose kids should be on team and we’re turned down and it sucks kids who would go every practice are shut out for kids who rarely attend.
But you don’t fully participate in the competition part of a “not Rec team”? Wow, you (and your kid) need to stop worrying about anyone else. That is not your business.
