There have been 10 deadly shootings in DC over the last week. Two men were killed today in Brookland (NE) at 2 PM - broad daylight. People who bought in the District never expecting a downturn are going to have some tough decisions to make. It is not safe in the District right now.
It’s perfectly safe in most of the District, including in the neighborhoods where the shootings this thread was originally about occurred. A handful of shootings does not mean your life is in danger. (Signed, someone who lives a few blocks from the homicide location on Western and heard all the shots.)
Yes. Not dangerous. Tell that to the VaTech grad gunned down at the Shell station. So sorry you are dead and were senselessly gunned down filling your car up, but you should have known better than doing that in the dark. So this is on you, because it is not a dangerous city.
The odds of being run over by someone driving a car are much higher. I don't need to live in fear if being shot.
Number of people (pedestrians and cyclists) killed by automobiles in 2019 in Washington DC: 99 Number of people killed (homicides) in shootings in DC during the same time: 166 (we are about to pass that for 2020 now)
And how many of those shooting victims were rich white professional NWers compared to the auto deaths? 90% of the people on this forum have probably never even set foot in the neighborhoods where most of the shootings happen, much less are they in any danger of being shot. Those shootings are over drugs, gang beefs, and drunken overreactions to personal slights. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad that there are actually people on this forum, typing from their million dollar Palisades homes, frantically clutching their pearls while reading about a shooting in Barry Farm where the perpetrator shot the victim because the victim shot his brother because his brother sold him some bad heroin thinking "that could have been me!"
