The consumer’s choices are artificially limited by private agreements among clubs and teams that might otherwise compete. Of course these clubs want to limit competition. Many of the parents enjoy the artificial barriers to entry - they are essentially buying exclusivity and exclusion. Put aside whether this is a free market. It might even be competitive in the sense of recruitment. But the final product is crap. So if the final product is crap, the system might not be producing good outcomes or welfare enhancement even though you are describing a free market. I think the inability to do better (and simply give in to the club v club format) is a classic collective action problem. We will never solve it because there are too many parents too dumb or lazy or smug to do something different or better. Thanks bozos![/quote]

You are actually pretty dumb if you believe the PP has a kid on a GA team. This is a parent who believes their DD’s team can compete with and beat a GA/ECNL team. And if we are talking 06 and younger he is probably right.

And there certainly some ECNL/GA teams older than 05 who are quite average.

Each GA and ECNL team may have 3-4 exceptional players but the rest are average. And next year, when showcase after showcase is cancelled and the only way to be seen is league agnostic ID Camps you’ll find out. [/quote]

I'm a parent that's been around for a long time. I can tell, you haven't. You're easy to spot. Loudest one at the table. A previous poster was right....your not a parent of an ECNL parent.

And, you have no concept of what average is.  An average player in the ECNL would dominate a lower league. A exceptional player in a lower league would be average in the ECNL. Again, average is relative. [/quote]

Three/four years ago roughly 40 kids per age group in NoVA could play in ECNL. Now ECNL has 80 kids per age group. Keep in mind that 05 and older only McLean has teams built when there were only two ECNL clubs. That means up to 60 kids currently in ECNL per age group did not make either FCV or McLean and you are going to tell me they are NOW exceptional?[/quote]
