People always blame the woman. Look how they blamed Jennifer Aniston for Brad leaving. And, the MEN always get a pass. It sounds like he cheated on her and had a drug problem. No matter what her personality is like, it is always wrong for a married partner to cheat. And open marriages?? WTF? Somebody will always fall in love eventually with whomever they begin to screw. It's the riskiest arrangement ever for a married couple that wants to protect their marriage.
You can’t cheat in an open marriage.
That's a silly statement. Pretty sure most open marriages have rules that couples stick by and aren't just a free-for-all in terms of getting involved/sleeping with others.
Good luck enforcing rules when you've already said you’re ok with your husband banging other people. Rule #1 of marriage has already been broken.
Im not poly, but I don’t think that’s how it works. Some couples manage to do this in a healthy way. It takes a ton of communication, emotional honesty, self awareness, self assessment, and vulnerability. Most of us aren’t equipped to do this well or put in the work. It’s something that’s easier to think about (and judge), than practice.
Not poly either, but I have a good friend who has been married for about 15 years and she and her husband have opened up the marriage a few times. They always had iron-clad rules about who and how and where they saw other people. If one person was on a dating site, they disclosed they were married and already had a primary partner. If sex with others was going to happen, it was not spontaneous and was disclosed. If one person became uncomfortable, the secondary relationship was discontinued and/or the marriage closed back up. They are still happily married (marriage currently closed).
That sounds sick. Two twisted, self-involved, highly controlling assholes. Yuck.
I guess I fail to see what's twisted or sick about being poly. Consenting adults and all that.
