I think what I'm reading is at least someone feels that....once the govt allows soccer to reopen (or any non essential businesses), it should be everyone's "duty" to get back out there and get the economy going back to as normal as possible so that people's lively hood can get back to normal as soon as possible. If we don't, businesses will fold, people will struggle, etc even more if we don't...even though that it's true that some of the kids will get infected and bring it home and spread it. When that happens, the hospitals should be ready. However, some people will die (most likely not the kids though) but we need to come to terms that there will be deaths for the greater good where the greater good is getting the economy back on its feet. I think this is what that TX gov was saying when he said something like...I'd rather be dead than to let the economy crumble. There will be alot of soul searching in this regard, but I just don't see youth soccer as being the choice where parents are willing to take the risk. That's why I agree that youth soccer will not be the same for a long time and it won't make sense to start up in June. I don't think there will be ENOUGH interest. Clubs will have skeleton crews as coaching staff and teams.
I am the PP. No. absolutely not. Please feel free to stay home if you can. Nobody should be obliged to do it. But if r<1, and local government permits the activity, don’t tell us we cannot do it if there is sufficient interest. Leave that up to individuals.
I also think that there is more than the economy at stake. You don’t know that a vaccine will work, or when, or how quickly or widely it would be distributed. So another part of the flattening the curve, then reopening with distance, is driven by a rational design for herd immunity where you have knowing probable exposure to elements of the population most able to tolerate it without death or serious illness. If we get to 40-60% exposure, vaccines may not be necessary. But I don’t think we know enough about the incidence, transmission or progression of the virus in subpopulations to do this for medical reasons alone. But yeah, if we are talking 30-40% unemployment, starvation, no health care for noncoronavirus patients, massive economic dislocation for numerous individuals and small businesses, a pause in all clinical trials for all other conditions, and state and local bankruptcy, all that too.
