My DC in 5th grade is only allowed to sign up for 1a in 6th. They don’t want to have to give 3ab at the MS. They said that the HS teachers are telling them that freshman coming in with 3ab from MS are not really prepared for level 4 because MS 3ab is not as rigorous as HS 3ab. They did not allow 1ab as an option for 6th graders, though they do allow it for 7th graders. They suggested that if you insisted on trying to get your 6th grader into 1ab then your 6th grader would be in a class with all 7th graders and would have to eat lunch with the 7th graders.
