The coaches for each of these do not independently speak to the Admissions Office or committee. The Athletic Director speaks for all sports. In doing so, he has to pay attention to the needs of all the teams he is responufor and keep the individual coaches mollified if not completely happy. But when the Athletic Director is also the head football coach it doesn't, it's pretty easy to guess where the thumb is going to be placed on the scales.
