For me, it’s not the politics that’s tiring, but the constant anger. The in-laws have Fox News on in the background and I really think it’s made them into crotchety old people and more angry than they would be otherwise. I also don’t like CNN and MSNBC as everything is a crisis, including Melania’s wordrobe. The constant anger and the bitching and moaning really brings me down.
Yes exactly. CNN and MSNBC aren’t great. They’re info-tainment. Their goal has morphed into seeking ratings at all costs. CNN brought ESPN ideas over— that’s why CNN has panels of talking heads “screaming hot takes they don’t even believe”. It’s modeled directly on Around the Horn on ESPN. Plus MSNBC and CNN are owned and run by conservatives, so they’re never going to be designed to push a Democratic viewpoint. Fox, on the other hand, is pure Republican propaganda. It was designed to be such from day 1, by Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch. And since its demographic is basically old white people and people with an authoritarian mindset (who like anger and order), its become a factory of anger and hate. You are totally within your rights to ask the in-laws to turn off Fox. For your sanity, and theirs. It’s not like CNN and MSNBC are much better either. TV cable “news” is hurting the whole country.
