[/quote] In Texas Texas A&M is the land grant but UT would be considered to as much of a claim to "flagship" status. It isn't really a technical term (unlike "land grant") and I don't think the legislature has designated UVA as flagship, but UVA's Wikipedia page claims flagship. I think it is just generally used to refer to some combination of best known, first, and most extensive in research and graduate degrees. [/quote]
