They can’t get full SS if they retire after just 30 years so people with 35-40 years is the norm. If you have 30 years by July 1, you can retire anytime the next year. Many people retire July 1 or put in a full extra year. However, I know quite a few teachers who retire in the Fall or after Winter Break. My mom retired the week before Halloween because she didn’t feel comfortable traveling in the dark anymore. [/quote]
