Note that there is need based funding available for DA and ECNL club teams for talented players who are in need. Also, if they play in "standard" leagues and are superstars, their teams most likely will incur a lot of expense traveling to find equal competition for league games and tournaments. Or are we talking about rec playing wunderkinds? I'd stand by the statement that the majority of talent is in ECNL/DA, especially on the girls side and especially in this affluent area. Sure, there may be a few in standard leagues all the way through U19, but it is not the norm and the average level of play is much higher in ECNL/DA.
A long time ago being a "travel" or "select" player meant something. Now it doesn't. Rec has become travel. And, anyone with a modicum of talent can now make an ECNL/DA team, whereas the true old fashioned rec player is limited to just being on a standard travel team. I know. I see the quality of these players that the clubs take. I have several kids who play travel soccer at all different levels. I have watched them play their DA or ECNL. A token few on each team are Elite, but ALL the parents love to go around talking about how their daughter is on this Elite ecnl or DA team. Truth is, ECNL/DA is not hard to make and no.longer elite back when there were too options. Look at the players taken at these clubs last year. Be honest. Only a few are elite. Imagine if they were put together on one Northern Virginia team. Those parents could be very proud. For everyone else, i guess just be proud that you have enough money to pay for your kid to be able to go around with that patch on their uniform. Half of the PPs get it, the other half are on the Kool-Aid
