As a democrat and a teacher, I am struggling to see how Ben J. helps Montgomery Co. in any way.
How does Larry H. help Montgomery Co. in any way?
DP. I look at it like the Hippocratic oath: first do no harm. I believe Jealous would harm MoCo by funneling more money to other parts of the state and possibly driving some of our tax base across the river. Hogan has done a decent job the last few years and I expect he would do the same for the next four. In this election, that is enough.
The state gets to allocate the state's money however the state wants. And there's a very good argument for adequately funding schools statewide. If you think it hurts Montgomery County when schools in Cecil County are adequately funded - well, I disagree.
It hurts MoCo if the money that makes Cecil County "adequately" funded comes from funds that currently go to MoCo, leaving MoCo inadequately funded. There is a perception that MoCo is rich and therefore doesn't need state money. I don't agree with that which is why I don't support pulling funds from MoCo.
+1. There is huge economic disparity in MoCo and reduced funding would hurt the poor and middle class students the most- the upper and UMC families will be able to make up the deficit if needed. MoCo already gets back way less than it pays in taxes.
