This was NOT a meeting to discuss Shaw Middle. This was an election meet-and-greet. Joe Weedon has done NOTHING to reach out to parents at Seaton who will be directly affected to whatever happens at the Shaw Middle site. He may have signs all over the neighborhood as of a week ago, but he's got no interest in the schools outside his immediate neighborhood of Capitol Hill or charters for that matter. [/quote]

Right now Shaw Middle is closed. There are zzero plans to reopen it because there is not a need. There is sufficient capacity without it.

What is on the table is whether to move Banneker to that location. Which, honestly, is the best idea out of DCPS in years.

Banneker is the 2nd highest performing school in the city, and when you take into account the demographics of its students it's accomplishments are even more amazing. It should definitely expand and deserves to be in a modern building.

For years I thought Shaw middle should go to a charter. That isn't happening, but moving Banneker there makes a ton of sense.[/quote]
