I dropped my child off for freshman year this week. The University President said..Even if you helped your child with their essay..you did not trick us into accepting a student that was not qualified. We know who will be successful here... I thought of this thread immediately.
Can you reveal which college this is so that I can sure no one in my family attends there? I’m not saying he is not correct, it is just a very lousy petulant thing to say.
+1 It's a really dumb thing to say. The University President isn't omniscient.
Not surprisingly, PP refuses to say where it is.
pet·u·lant ?peCH?l?nt/ adjective adjective: petulant (of a person or their manner) childishly sulky or bad-tempered. "he was moody and petulant" synonyms: peevish, bad-tempered, querulous, pettish, fretful, cross, irritable, sulky, snappish, crotchety, touchy, tetchy, testy, fractious, grumpy, disgruntled, crabby; How does that word even make sense? Sounds like he was encouraging parents not to worry as they dropped their kids off. They would be fine at college. He was not saying it to a group that was about to apply.
Petulant is the exact word. All of those synonyms fit IMHO. No call for any negativity, accusation or insult at what should be a happy and bittersweet day. Can you tell us where this was said please? I am not the person who insulted your grammar.
I was not the person who posted it. I am just surprised at the reactions as I don't see it as negative at all. I also don't think it is wrong for a parent to give an essay a second read before it goes out.
