Apologies for not reading the past 7 pages of responses, but I will state that it really annoys me that the local clubs that I have been a part of give a lot of lip service to sideline behaviors/codes of conduct/etc. but then do absolutely nothing to enforce it. I've been involved in travel soccer for well over 10 years and occasionally there will be a coach who does a little "parents, simmer down" type of soft reprimand, but that's it. The code of conduct is clear. But it's not worth anything if it's not enforced. We had a player leave our team/club in the past b/c of sideline behavior of a parent on the same team. And a very similar thing happened to another one of my children's teams a few years ago. It's totally unacceptable. The CLUB should be enforcing the "no coaching from the sidelines" or "no yelling at the ref", or whatever is in their code.
Well said, what's even worse is when the Coach is worse than the crazy parent on the sideline. No wonder kids quit sports.
+1 We were at a game last night. There were 2 dads and 1 mom on the sidelines who were non-stop yelling at their team: "Run. Run. RUUUUUNNNN. No, DON'T stop, RUN." "Go after it 72 (made up number). Don't stop, GO AFTER IT." "Why did you do that? WHY? Go after the ball. See the ball, go after it." They were yelling at kids who weren't even theirs. At one point the ref stopped the game and went over to them and told them to tone it down. They got offended. The ref after the game went to the coach and said she was close to ejecting them. The coach DEFENDED those clowns and then complained to one of the dad's kids about the ref. Friends arrived almost at the end for the next game and ended up sitting on the bleachers by the yellers. The friends looked so stressed I thought they were going to shatter or explode judging from their body language. The friends were waiting for the next game(!), not even there for that game! We usually move by them or swing by to talk but there was no way we were doing that last night. They should have moved but I think they sensed that their presence had actually toned down the yellers. And the girl who the yellers kept calling out looked like she was going to cry and had this look on her face like "why are you yelling at me" and "who ARE you?" The yellers clearly didn't even know who she was because they only used her number and didn't say her name while they were calling out their own kids' names. I really hope she tells her parents and that her parents complain to her school.
