he is right on target. we have damaged the next generation with our immigration policy, give the middle class a giant middle finger. but the educated elite, like you, get to have your cheap lettuce and organic strawberries. screw the low skilled workers. we are supposed to import millions of guest workers, give them green cards, over helping our neighbors? yeh what a friend you are.
The cheap lettuce and $1 avocado crap is a tired meme. We don't need anywhere near the farm labor we needed even 20 years ago due intelligent manned and/or autonomous machinery. It's all about Wall St and gutting the middle class. Pure greed.
So if it's a contest between robots and undocumented farmworkers, what does this have to do with the American middle class? They aren't getting more agricultural jobs regardless by your logic.
The American middle class is losing jobs to robots and it's not just agricultural jobs. The nativist talk is simply to consolidate the aggrieved whip makers and fuel an adversarial relationship between struggling whites and poor PoC so that neither can focus political will on those who actually ARE taking the fruits of other people's labor. This way the right can have a populist movement but maintain the oligarchy. And, as others have pointed out, America was built on the backs of slaves and dirt poor immigrant laborers. The last wave of American mega wealthy, the robber barons, made their stacks of gold with the blood of Chinese and Irish immigrants.
Can we focus on who has access to education if generations of poor whites and PoC don't? Why do undocumented economic refugees or rich Chinese students get access to private higher education institutions who receive tax dollars before fully qualified poor Americans and rich Americans of all shades? This is bullshit and we know it is bullshit. People don't care and so we have to learn how to cheap the system as well since politicians don't care.
Because foreign students pay higher rates which subsidizes tuition for residents. They don't get tax dollars. If you want to blame someone for skyrocketing college costs, blame the Rs who keep defunding education. DACA students can get in state tuition in *some* states. That is true. But, I think even some red states, like TX, have figured out that it isn't their fault being here; it's better for them to be educated than not; it would be cruel to punish them for what their parents did. We generally don't punish children for their parents' crimes. but seriously, if Trump and Rs cared about higher ed, why did they put DeVos in as DOE? This tells me they don't give a fig about it. Especially Trump. He prefers universities make a profit and screw their students, like Trump U.
