We sold our condo in DC, moved to the suburbs, DW quit her full time job and works part time now, and we cut the cost of daycare because DS attends a co-op now. We are stretching a bit financially, but we are much happier and have a lot more time at home and with each other.
This is my dream. Working mom here of two kids, 1.5 and 3.5 and we have this conversation daily. I hate it. I feel like no one is getting what they need- kids don't see us enough. My partner and I don't see each other enough. The house is a disaster etc. Going to read all of these comments to see how others manage.
As others have said you can't have it all something has to give As I have said the number one problem is the expectation from corporate America of working over 40 hours a week and being on-call This concept is complete BS its a Type A people pleaser thing where you can't say no to someone Noone is important enough to be working more than 40 hours a week. When you work more than 40 hours a week the relationship with your spouse and children suffers Wake up people
Let me ask you two questions. One, how old are you? And two, do you work?
30s I work and I do good work and I don't work evenings or weekends
Almost everyone I know works more than 40 hours a week. Not like 80 hours, but at least 45, more like 50. I agree that there is an unfortunate culture of always being on even when you're home, but to say that there's a bright line where working over 40 hours impairs your relationship with your family is ridiculous and rude.
