I think the thing that's bothering me the most is that we have everything recorded at this point multiple viewpoints and people will still say they believe the lies of DHS and the president. It's not a lack of information it's willful disregard for truth. I have a lot of family members in the south and many of them are Trump voters. My husband was asked me why I keep them and don't block them or unfollow and it's because it provides a viewpoint and even when reading their posts about this I still can't wrap my mind around it because this is the party and the people who cheered on Kyle rittenhouse, they said those in January 6th we're just congregating and protesting, they vote for Republicans quote on quote because they're going to come for our guns, and I can't help but begin to think that the only constitutional rights that they believe in are the ones that apply to them.
It's really pretty simple. It's the whole in-group and out-group thing. We are in a situation as a nation where individuals derive their self-worth from party affiliation, treating opposing political groups (out-groups) as threats. This "us vs. them" mentality fosters extreme partisanship in which in-group loyalty clouds their perception of reality. In that world view, both sides see the other side as enemies and threats to our way of life.
