I hope the alumni and parents of students at Brown scream about the lack of security and cameras on campus. For a university with a considerable endowment, this is unacceptable.
+1 absurdly inadequate
I would like to hear more about the homeless graduate that is apparently unable to be gainfully employed for whatever reason (mental illness, drug addiction?) …yet is allowed to live/loiter on campus despite having no legitimate purpose to be there. Is this common?
Are you talking about the hero who actually solved the case?
Hero? He didn’t save anyone or prevent the Brown shooting (or subsequent MIT shooting). He helped police find the killer’s dead body sooner. The killer shot himself Monday shortly after he killed the MIT professor.
He was instrumental in solving the case. Who knows if this nut would have taken out someone else had he not been cornered. It is crazy that this guy has been living in the basement of one of Brown's buildings...... that shows that security at Brown was lax. Evidently, the killer knew it was and knew that the building where he did the shooting had almost no cameras.
He's the janitor, no?
Janitor and reddit tipster are not the same. The Reddit tipster did not make the Reddit post. It’s says the Reddit poster and “John” (name given to homeless person) are the same person. The janitor is not the same person as John. Janitor saw suspect in bathroom/basement and was interviewed by police in the very beginning which helped them find the initial surveillance videos of suspect. Tip lines opened Dec 15. Dec 16, an anonymous person contacted FBI about the Reddit post they saw that seemed to be something worthy of reporting, and alerted police to read the Reddit info. Detectives were able to find video of that showed John interacting with the suspect and released pictures of John as a “person of interest” they want to speak with. Dec 17, John, the author of Reddit post/homeless guy, came forward to police to be interviewed. He had quite an thorough interaction with the suspect: from locking eyes with him the bathroom, following him, at one point chasing him, verbally calling out his weird behavior, even having the suspect yell at him to stop harassing him. When the shooting happened a couple hours later, he had to have thought it was probably that guy. He also said he immediately recognized the guy when pictures were made public of him that same night. Yet he posted on Reddit instead of calling police and waited four days to contact police. That is what I don’t understand.
