Antonia above, er, the neighborhood is mostly white and affluent, the school almost entirely black and lower middle-class or poor from K up. I'm lost, what are you advocating? You don't want many more middle-class IB families to get involved? If LT is not going to become a bona fide neighborhood school, why not have it go charter and be done with it? How does your family benefit from the great majority of neighborhood whites with little kids running off to charters and privates? - My family does not need whites to make our lives any more fulfilling. Honestly my family (kids) benefit from their mother and Father investing and loving them. The rest is the game of life. This goes beyond having the so-called elite education. Ok, when you say neighborhood, are speaking south of H Street? But it really does not matter anyway. To be honest I think it's great to have more IB families, My issue it the fact some parents have this idea that their kids are for some reason are at an intelligent advantage from the laws of nature. The advantage comes from your connections anyone who has anything worth having in DC should know this. Now I do have my opinions that would suggest that kids that are poor may have disadvantages, but creating a school system that is designed to educate all is the answer. Achievement Academy SE DC and DC Prep NE- have higher schools than any school on the hill, have proven that you economic social status is not relevant- It takes a village to raise a child PERIOD- I don't care where the child comes from socially/ economically- great relationships with caring and nurturing peers is what molds a great human being. Because the internet has held no true merit in my analysis of reality- I take this blog for face value. When we have true neighborhoods schools again “Segregation" The bussing of the 60's will begin. Why are we going backwards instead of forward? I know Americans or transplant can’t be this STUPID- Maybe we are- This is really sad. I look at thing through a glass not a mirror- Again- Like most affluent-True people that embody the east coast elite preppy send their kids to Private School- Unless you have an Affluent that suffers from white guilt-And those typically are pretty progressive. If this not you than honestly you are on the same play field as anyone else. Typically speaking we are mostly middle class- now it can be broken down. But are you part of the 99%? I think New and Old Washingtonian needs to understand why we love DC and make this city the Grand City it's supposed to be.
