It may be 5 months but its 50% of the population and we know from RAE that the oldest 50% makes up 80% of players on top teams..... Expect crazy days ahead people!
Crazy from the parents who think a birthdate automatically gives them an edge, especially when the advantages diminish the older they get. It's all highly individual and club dependent. If anything, the biggest turnovers will be in the first year of 11v11, where these older kids will have a year of 11v11 under their belt (although unless it's a top, top team, all those kids won't be wanting to play on a team that hasn't played 11v11 before). After that, Pre-GA, Pre-ECNL, Pre-MLSN, etc, etc. The rest, there'll be far less movement.
Kids get about 4-8% better at soccer per year; faster, stronger, better skills, higher IQ. A change in birthdate will automatically give Aug-Dec kids and edge and give Jan-Jul kids a disadvantage. There will be a crazy amount of movement unless coaches have locked assessments of kids on their teams relative to their current age group. Some coaches will fight the change and their teams will struggle and the smart ones will adapt. After meeting many coaches, haven't met many that get game theory very well. So maybe the coaches fight the movement the first year but will be forced to blow things up in the fall of 2027.
