I think people want to put their heads in the sand and say that teachers and kids don’t face this in school and that this is an anomaly, but reality is that teachers take yearly training in this and that your kid does active shooter drills. What about that means that no one expects a gun to be in a school and that it shouldn’t be a workers comp issue? Explain to me how we simultaneously accept that this is an issue, give instruction and training about it and then say it isn’t part of the job. [/quote]

It seems like in this case the school system is getting ready to argue that they do have it both ways—that minimal training for weapons response is adequate (despite the fact that the teacher followed protocol and reported it, repeatedly), and that a grossly unusual intervention (a parent accompanying a child in the classroom) was adequate for the child’s violent behavioral issues.
