What is gong to happen to the tiny shread of credibility of Smart Restart and the Arlington Education Association (especially crying union leader) remaining when masks are optional and nothing happens? These COVIDians have been consistently wrong and have only damaged our school system by scaring students, parents and teachers: *Remember when they didn't want to open without 14 days of new cases (we still wouldn't be open)? *Remember when they said open schools would cause tons of people to die (didn't happen)? *Remember when they said open schools would result in way more cases in the community (didn't happen; spread in school is less than the community)? *Remember when they complained about school being forced to be open during Delta because of SB1303, saying it was too dangerous? *Remember when they complained about school being forced to be open during Omicron because of SB1303, saying schools would have to close because too much staff would be out? Please remember the devastation they claim will occur with mask optional schools. Meanwhile, around 1/2 the kids in the US or more are at mask optional schools, with no issue. There are tons of kids in Northern Europe too for the entire pandemic.
These type of criticisms ignore the reality that circumstances and knowledge changed as the pandemic proceeded. No, the supporters of pandemic mitigation measures are not “consistently wrong.” Focusing on 2022 only, limiting the mask mandate in schools on mid January is much riskier than doing so sometime later this month (assuming the Covid infection rates continue their downward trajectory and we really do move toward the end of the pandemic). It does not make the fight against Youngkin lifting the mask mandate weeks ago wrong.
LOL - This was their claims a week ago! The AEM crazies were going nuts that going maskless was selfish, horrible, signs of being a trumpet Now that the Dems signed onto the bill AND so many states have started to drop mask mandates, they are totally silent of course. what happened to all the bravado??? And where are all those teachers who were going to quit if masks weren’t mandatory? A few of them posted on AEM. I will definitely be checking if they quit …
I think the northeast states are acting (as well the changed view of Dr. Lena Wen) both on the lower Covid numbers (they are ahead of the DC area in the reduction of cases) and the reality of having to operate in a world with so many ignorant selfish people like those on this thread that are so up in arms about the limited sacrifice of wearing masks. Unfortunately, it seems this new approach probably wont work either since idiots like those on this thread will claim they were right all along and will continue to ignore the advice of legitimate public health officials. If it were me, I would keep all mandate for the time being.
Or, it could be the realization that masks don't really work and the public knows it now. All credibility has been lost by our so-called experts and the public has decided to take control of the situation.
